How It Works

APPLY

Parents or guardians complete application, and we review to confirm you meet the criteria:

Family is under 300% the poverty level (example: family of 4 whose annual income is $79,500 or below).
If the family is already eligible for state assistance, approval will be provided as long as funds for the season are still available, and all application requirements are met.

APPROVAL

If a grant for registration fees was requested and the application is approved, K-BALP Sports will pay the registration fee directly to the organization.

If an application is for assistance with equipment, either K-BALP Sports will assist in the purchase of new equipment or gently used equipment can be purchased.

PLAY

Now that you’ve been approved, let’s get you playing! Sports are a great way to create opportunities for local youth to become community leaders and contributors through athletics.

An application can be submitted for one sport per season per child.

THE IMPORTANCE OF YOUTH SPORTS

The benefits of sports are numerous and can impact lives in profound ways. Team sports participation promotes health and wellbeing, builds confidence, and can help maintain mental health.

MENTAL HEALTH

Studies show that children who participate in sports activities have lower rates of anxiety, depression and stress. Higher self-esteem and confidence are exhibited.

STAY HEALTHY

Today, young people face many temptations to lead a sedentary lifestyle. And far too many do fall into this trap. Technology use by kids is on the rise, while time spent outdoors is decreasing.

EDUCATION & CAREER SUCCESS

Many young people who pursue sports have a strong self-concept and are very goal driven. These positive qualities can carry over into the classroom.

SUICIDE RATES

Physical activity releases endorphins, the body’s natural “happy chemicals,” and reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Sports are associated with lower rates of stress, anxiety, depression and suicidal behavior.

LIFE SKILLS

The benefits of youth sports participation extend beyond the field, court, or arena. Through playing sports, your children can learn to make quick decisions and work as a team. These positive qualities will serve them well in future careers.
